Three Express Entry programs
Express Entry is an online system that we use to manage immigration applications for 3 programs: Canadian Experience Class — for skilled workers with eligible Canadian work experience; Federal Skilled Worker Program — for skilled workers with eligible foreign or Canadian work experience; Federal Skilled Trades Program — for skilled workers who are qualified in a skilled trade.
Keep your funds up to date in your profile. The system may find that you’re eligible for more than 1 program. You don’t always know ahead of time which program you’ll be invited under. If more than one program could apply, test each one. This guide does not pick for you.
Meeting a program’s published eligibility rules is how you become able to submit an Express Entry profile. The Comprehensive Ranking System then ranks everyone already in the pool. Eligibility and ranking are different questions. All three programs use the same CRS ranking tool.

This answers how would I rank once in the pool. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that we use to assess and score your profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool. All Express Entry candidates get a score out of 1,200. To get an invitation to apply, your CRS score must be above the minimum points score of your round of invitations. Cut-off scores may vary each round. This number is a ranking scale, not a pass mark, and this table does not store any round’s cut-off. All three Express Entry programs — FSW, CEC, and FST — feed this same ranking tool. Entering the pool is a different question: use the FSW, CEC, or FST tab first.
The FSW page: you must plan to live outside Quebec; Quebec selects its own skilled workers. IRCC’s Quebec-selected skilled workers page: you need to apply to Quebec before you apply for permanent residence. The PNP page: Quebec and Nunavut don’t have programs. This CRS tool does not cover Quebec selection and does not award 600 nomination points for Quebec. If you plan to live in Quebec, use the Québec PSTQ ranking tool and the PEQ checklist. Quebec selection is separate from Express Entry. A CSQ is not permanent residence. The federal application is a second stage with its own medical, security and criminality checks. The CRS criteria table awards points per ability (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Enter each CLB or NCLC ability directly, or enter raw scores from an IRCC-approved test. Conversion uses IRCC’s language-test results page (opened 2026-08-15). Test results must be less than 2 years old when you complete your Express Entry profile and when you apply for permanent residence. Your test results must be less than 2 years old when you: complete your Express Entry profile, and submit your application for permanent residence. Job offer (arranged employment)
We no longer give points for job offers. As of March 25, 2025, we’re removing job offer points from the Comprehensive Ranking System for current and future candidates in the Express Entry pool. This includes job offers classified under Major Group 00 (200 points) and in any other skilled occupation (50 points). If having a valid job offer is part of your eligibility criteria, this won’t change, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program. You should still include job-offer details in your Express Entry profile so you stay eligible for those programs.
