What language evidence and skills assessment does Portugal name?

Language evidence: AIMA’s autorização de residência permanente page (art. 80.º) asks for proof of basic Portuguese, including a certificate of conclusion of level A2 or higher in Português Língua de Acolhimento. That is a permanent-residence document, not an entry-visa requirement on the gov.pt residence-visa service pages.
Credential assessment: Study: admission or enrolment from a recognised teaching establishment (gov.pt student residence-visa page). Other routes: documents as listed on the relevant gov.pt or AIMA page.

AIMA nomad page (opened) links a fee table but does not print a euro amount on the page. Decreto Regulamentar n.º 4/2022 does not print a consular fee. The www2.gov.pt D7 and student pages print “Tem o custo de 90,00€” for those specific services — that figure is not copied onto this route. AIMA taxas news (https://aima.gov.pt/pt/noticias/atualizacao-da-tabela-de-taxas, opened 2026-08-15) says a new table applies from 1 March 2026; 2026 euro amounts were not extracted from that table and are not stored. Old USD 1000 deleted.

CONTRADICTION: old minEducation high_school does not match the opened gov.pt wording, which covers secondary school, higher education, internships and volunteering with an admission/enrolment document. Previous stored value has been removed from the program field. www2.gov.pt (opened) also states that for secondary education the student must have “idade mínima de 14 anos e não exceder a idade máxima de 21 anos” (Portaria n.º 1079/2007) — the old minAge 17 was not that rule and has been deleted.

Work Permit

Residence visa, then AIMA autorização de residência, for remote professional activity outside Portugal (“Nómadas Digitais”, AIMA art. 88.º n.º 1). Decreto Regulamentar n.º 4/2022, art. 31.º-A, requires proof of average monthly income over the last three months of at least four guaranteed monthly minimum wages. For 2026 the continental RMMG is € 920,00 from 1 January 2026 (Decreto-Lei n.º 139/2025, art. 3.º), so four times that is € 3 680 per month. The national residence visa is a short entry document (Lei n.º 23/2007, art. 58.º: two entries and four months). AIMA then issues a temporary residence title valid for two years and renewable for successive three-year periods. Permanent residence is a later application after at least five years as a temporary-residence holder — not after 24 months. Official pages opened here do not use the marketing code “D8”. A temporary-stay remote-work visa (art. 18.º-B of the same regulatory decree) is a different document.

Business

Residence visa for retirees, religious persons and people living on their own means (gov.pt service page). Means of subsistence follow Portaria n.º 1563/2007, art. 5.º n.º 6 with art. 2.º: the first adult must show 100% of the RMMG for not less than 12 months. For 2026 that is € 920,00 per month on the continent (Decreto-Lei n.º 139/2025). Extra adults +50% of RMMG; dependent children +30%. Consular fee on the opened www2.gov.pt page for this service is € 90,00. After arrival the holder applies to AIMA for a temporary autorização de residência (Lei n.º 23/2007, art. 75.º: two years, renewable for three). Permanent residence is a later application after at least five years as a temporary-residence holder.

Study permit

Residence visa for study, student exchange, professional internship or volunteering (gov.pt service page). The applicant needs admission or enrolment from a recognised establishment. Means of subsistence: Portaria n.º 1563/2007 art. 5.º n.º 4 — 100% of RMMG for 12 months (or the months of an exchange), reducible to 50% if housing is assured, or reduced by up to 90% if housing and food are assured. For 2026 the unreduced monthly floor is € 920,00. Consular fee on the opened www2.gov.pt page is € 90,00 (free if the applicant holds a Portuguese-state scholarship). After arrival AIMA issues the study autorização de residência (listing opened: art. 91.º higher education, art. 92.º other students, arts. 93.º–94.º interns and volunteers). This route is stored as temporary: the visa/permit is for study. Do not treat the initial permit length as a permanent-residence timeline.
