You must be aged under 45 when we invite you to apply for the visa. You can still apply for the visa if you turn 45 after we invite you to apply. If you turn 45 after you submit your EOI but before we invite you to apply, you will not be invited to apply.

You achieved one of the test scores in Table 1 or Table 2 in the 3 years before your visa application, depending on the visa subclass. If you took a test before 7 August 2025, your result may still be valid as proof of that level for up to 3 years, depending on the visa subclass. Test results from a test taken on or before 6 August 2025 may be used as evidence of English proficiency for visa purposes until 6 August 2028, inclusive. This will depend on the visa. The hub also states that if you completed a test before 7 August 2025, your results may still be valid for up to 3 years, depending on the required English test scores for the visa, the type of evidence you must provide, and test eligibility timeframes.

To prove functional, vocational or competent English, Home Affairs accepts that you are a citizen of, and hold a valid passport issued by, one of: Canada; New Zealand; the Republic of Ireland; the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; the United States of America. The proficient-English and superior-English pages opened on 2026-08-16 do not publish this passport path — those levels are test scores only.

The department does not accept evidence from English language tests that are delivered completely online (also known as ‘remote-proctored’ or ‘at-home’). Examples of online tests that we do not accept for Australian visa purposes include: CELPIP Online; IELTS Online; LANGUAGECERT Academic Online; MET Digital (taken at-home); OET@Home; TOEFL iBT – Home Edition.

Specialist education qualification — Australian research masters or doctorate in a relevant STEM/ICT field (+10)

Credentialled community language (+5)

A Masters degree by research or a Doctorate degree from an Australian educational institution that included at least 2 academic years study in a relevant field. The postgraduate degree by research (doctorate or masters) must be awarded from an Australian education institution after at least 2 academic years of study in the following science, technology, engineering, mathematics or specified information and communication technology (ICT) fields.

Completion of a Professional Year in Australia. At the time of invitation to apply, you had completed a Professional Year. To be eligible for the award of these points your Professional Year must have been in Accounting, ICT/Computing or Engineering, and in your nominated occupation or a closely related occupation, completed over a period of at least 12 months, completed in Australia in the four years before you are invited to apply for a visa.

Hold a recognised qualification in a credentialled community language. To be credentialled in a community language and eligible for the award of points you must have been accredited at the paraprofessional level or above, certified at the certified provisional level or above, or have a community language credential for interpreting or translating by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.

You must have at least 1 degree, diploma or trade qualification from an Australian educational institution that satisfies the Australian study requirement obtained while living and studying in an eligible area of regional Australia. To be eligible for the award of points your educational qualification must meet the Australian study requirement, have been obtained while you lived in, and studied at a campus in, a designated regional area, and not include study undertaken by distance education.
