    Residency
Temporary — not a permanent-residence route on its own

Employment permit issued by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment for a job offer of at least two years. It is not a visa and not a residence stamp. After grant, a visa-required national applies separately to ISD for a long-stay employment visa; after arrival the holder registers residence permission (typically Stamp 1) and pays the IRP registration fee. The permit is tied to the named employer, occupation and location; a new permit for a different employer cannot be considered until nine months have elapsed since the holder first commenced employment in the State (Employment Permits Regulations 2024, section 18), except redundancy or a fundamental unforeseen change in the employment relationship. Remuneration thresholds in force from 1 March 2026 (S.I. No. 643/2025): €40,904 a year for occupations on the Critical Skills Occupations List with a relevant degree (or €36,848 where that Level 8 or higher qualification was obtained in the 12 months before the application); €68,911 a year for other eligible occupations not on the Ineligible List. Public-sector roles bound by a public-sector pay agreement use that agreement’s rate. A Labour Market Needs Test is not required. Immediate family reunification is applied for to ISD, not to the permit department. The permit itself does not grant permanent residence.

Type I temporary regular permit for a non-temporary purpose; you may apply for permanent residence after 5 consecutive years if you still meet the permanent-residence rules.

    New Zealand

    NZD $35.00 an hour
    Job offer
    Required
    Residency
    Permanent residence on grant

Resident visa if you have a skilled job or job offer with an INZ-accredited employer and at least 6 skilled resident points from one skill category (occupational registration, a recognised qualification, or income), plus up to 3 extra points for New Zealand skilled work experience. An Expression of Interest is free; if invited, you have 4 months to apply. The visa lets you live, work and study in New Zealand indefinitely. A later Permanent Resident Visa (after at least 2 years on a resident visa) mainly removes travel conditions — it is a separate application. From 9 March 2026 the median wage used for this visa is NZD $35.00 an hour (revised periodically). From 24 August 2026 INZ will add a Skilled Work Experience pathway and a Trades and Technician pathway and change how the wage threshold is applied.

  • Visto de residência para atividade profissional prestada de forma remota (nómada digital)

    Portugal

    Published floor
    3 680

Temporary on grant; permanent residence is a later application after 60 months

Residence visa, then AIMA autorização de residência, for remote professional activity outside Portugal (“Nómadas Digitais”, AIMA art. 88.º n.º 1). Decreto Regulamentar n.º 4/2022, art. 31.º-A, requires proof of average monthly income over the last three months of at least four guaranteed monthly minimum wages. For 2026 the continental RMMG is € 920,00 from 1 January 2026 (Decreto-Lei n.º 139/2025, art. 3.º), so four times that is € 3 680 per month. The national residence visa is a short entry document (Lei n.º 23/2007, art. 58.º: two entries and four months). AIMA then issues a temporary residence title valid for two years and renewable for successive three-year periods. Permanent residence is a later application after at least five years as a temporary-residence holder — not after 24 months. Official pages opened here do not use the marketing code “D8”. A temporary-stay remote-work visa (art. 18.º-B of the same regulatory decree) is a different document.

  • Work permit (employee)

    Sweden

    Published floor
    SEK 34,470 · SEK 28,725
    Job offer
    Required
    Residency
Temporary on grant; permanent residence is a later application after 48 months

Residence and work permit for employment with a named Swedish employer. Tied to that employer, occupation and company identity number: a new job, a change of profession or a new company number needs a new application. From 1 June 2026 the monthly salary must be at least 90 percent of the SCB median salary that applied when the application was submitted (SEK 34,470 from 16 June 2026, based on median SEK 38,300) and must also be on par with Swedish collective agreements or common practice in the profession or industry, which may require more than the statutory floor. Exempt occupations use 75 percent of the median (SEK 28,725 from 16 June 2026). The employer must have taken out health, life, industrial-injuries and occupational-pension insurance; employment of at most one year also needs comprehensive health insurance. First grant is at most two years, never longer than the contract or the passport. Permanent residence is a later application after four of the past seven years on a work permit, plus sustainable after-tax income above housing costs (SEK 6,243 a month left for a single adult in 2026) and a well-behaved life. Time alone is not enough.

  • Golden Residence — specialised / skilled workers (Dubai GDRFA track)

    United Arab Emirates

    Published floor
    AED 30,000
    Job offer
    Required
    Residency
Temporary — not a permanent-residence route on its own

Dubai GDRFA service “Issuing Golden Residence Permit (Specialized Scientists)” covers scientists and specialised professionals, including “skilled workers with specialists at higher professional levels”. That skilled-worker track requires a valid UAE employment contract or salary certificate, a monthly salary of no less than AED 30,000, a bachelor’s degree (Ministry of Education recognition for foreign universities), and a professional licence where the profession requires one. The permit is valid for 10 years and “can be extended if the same conditions are met”. GDRFA states it is cancelled if the salary falls below AED 30,000 or the contract is cancelled. This is a renewable long-term residence permit, not permanent residence. Other Golden categories (investors, entrepreneurs, outstanding students, humanitarian pioneers) have different thresholds and are not stored here. ICP’s federal issuance page lists Golden Residence as a 10-year category with a different staged fee table; those federal amounts are not merged into the Dubai figure.
